The Alzada Company, developer of The Irving Downtown, attended the first official meeting regarding the revitalization and modernization of the Park of Palms on Monday, April 11, 2022, along with representatives from the Naples Botanical Garden, the City of Fort Myers, and a descendant of the Vivas Family, whose ancestors donated the Park’s land to the City in the mid-twentieth century.
The Park of Palms – located on the Southeast corner of Edwards Drive and Lee Street in the historic River District of Downtown Fort Myers – was officially dedicated by the Fort Myers Garden Club as the “Garden of Palms” in 1955.
The park currently contains almost 50 distinct tree species, predominantly palms, including a Royal Palm, Black Olive Tree, Gumbo Limbo Tree, Teddy Bear Palm, Gingerbread Palm, Christmas Palm, Old Man Palm, and Lady Palm.
